HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday ordered a complete revamp of the Telangana State Public Services Commission (TSPSC), saying “nothing short of a fully transparent conduct by the TSPSC” would be acceptable.
The Chief Minister also instructed TSPSC officials to study the systems and practices of the Union Public Service Commission, along with those of public service commissions in other states, and submit a report on best practices.
Revanth Reddy, who chaired a review meeting on TSPSC’s functioning, the job notifications it issued, the examinations conducted and recruitments done so far, also made it clear that steps must be taken to ensure smooth conduct of such tasks by the TSPSC.
He also called for the preparation of guidelines for the appointment of TSPSC chairperson and members, as per Supreme Court guidelines, and that officials should ensure the availability of required technological inputs and staff for the TSPSC to discharge its duties effectively.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, Chief Minister’s principal secretary V. Seshadri, DGP Ravi Gupta, Additional DG C.V. Anand, TSPSC secretary Anita Ramachandran and senior officials.
Meanwhile, the resignation of TSPSC chairman N. Janardhan Reddy from his position has not been accepted by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, it was learnt. The official had submitted his resignation from his position to the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Monday.
It is learnt that Dr Soundararajan was not inclined to accept the resignation and would be seeking legal opinion on the matter, particularly in the wake of the question paper leaks from TSPSC and fixing accountability for these leaks.
Even as the Governor is learnt to have made it clear that Janaradhan Reddy’s resignation was not accepted, a former MLA and a member of the TSPSC board, R. Satyanarayana, on Tuesday announced he was quitting his position.
In a statement, he said leaving the TSPSC was the right thing to do as the aspirations of the people were for a revamp of TSPSC. He also said since TSPSC is a body set up directly under Constitutional provisions, removal of anyone from the board would require an investigation by a Supreme Court judge to prove any charge levelled against a member.
Although no charges were framed or an investigation conducted against any TSPSC member, there is a clamour for removal of the members and in this context, he decided to resign.
Meanwhile, all TSPSC members — Prof. Sailu Chintha, Ramavath Dhan Singh, Prof. Bandi Linga Reddy, Kotla Aruna Kumari, Sumithra Anand Tanoba, Karam Ravinder Reddy, Dr A. Chandrashekar Rao, and Satyanarayana — met Revanth Reddy and offered to resign from their positions to pave the way for the reconstitution of the TSPSC board.
They are also expected to seek an appointment with the Governor and offer their resignations.
