Karnataka: Garland made of peacock feathers lands leader in trouble
Bengaluru: Supporters take to garland their leaders with flowers, fruits and vegetables but supporters in Pandavapura of Mandya district chose to garland his leader Darshan Puttanaiah of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) with a garland made of peacock feathers which has now caught the attention of forest officials for violations under Wildlife Protection Act and Wildlife (Taxidermy) Rules.
The garlanding of Darshan with peacock feathers took place on Sunday evening. Darshan Puttanaiah’s father late Puttanaiah was elected to the Assembly seat from Pandavapura seat now renamed as Melukote.
Darshan Puttanaiah was engaged in campaigning for the ensuing Assembly election in Melukote constituency and he was received by his followers at Visvesvarayya Nagar of Pandavapura in Mandya.
Darshan was garlanded with peacock feathers and the leader posed for the photograph with fellow villagers. The photographs went viral on a social networking site which drew the attention of forest officials.
DCF Ruthren told Deccan Chronicle on Monday that notice has been served in the case and investigation is on to find out whether peacock feathers are shedded ones or hunted.
