BJP using gods for political gains: Ponnam Prabhakar

WARANGAL: In the name of Hindu Ektha Yatra, BJP leaders are using gods such as Lord Rama and Hanuman to do politics, said senior Congress leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar. “When the Junior Panchayat Secretaries (JSPs) have been protesting since the past few days, why are they not exerting pressure on the state government? Are they not Hindus?” he asked.

Along with DCC president Adi Srinivas, Prabhakar held a press meet at the Congress’ office in Rajanna Sircilla district on Sunday.

Speaking to media persons, Prabhakar asked what has Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar done for the people of his constituency, other than provoking people in the name of religion. Except for communally-related topics, Bandi has never focused on development or resolving issues of the people.

Even former BRS MP from Boinapally, Vinod Kumar, also did nothing for the people of Sircilla. He did not take any initiative for the welfare of handloom workers in Sircilla, Prabhakar alleged.

“Instead of establishing the Mega Textile Park in Sircilla, Vinod Kumar shifted it to his native Warangal. When Congress leaders from this region opposed the state government’s move and urged it to establish the park in Sircilla, neither Bandi nor Vinod Kumar showed any initiative and betrayed the handloom workers,” Prabhakar said.

Now, the state government is trying to stifle the JPSs strike by threatening to fire them from their jobs. The Congress is extending its support to the JPSs and will fight against the state government until their demands are fulfilled, he added.

After the results of Assembly elections in Karnataka, the BJP and the BRS must stop refrain from cheap politics in the name of religions and instead focus on resolving various public issues, he said.
