Narendra Modi kicks off poll campaign, says Uttar Pradesh due for change

'Jugalbandi' between Mulayam-Mayawati must end for Uttar Pradesh's development, says Modi.

Allahabad: Maintaining that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can't see Uttar Pradesh getting ravaged by the current government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the time for a change has come in the state.

"Every time the country faced a problem, it was the people of Uttar Pradesh who came forward to help. We don't want our youth to face the problems that the older generations faced. I am here to assure the youth that if you have potential, you will get your dues," Prime Minister Modi said addressing a public rally in Allahabad.

Prime Minister Modi pointed out that the time has come for a "Vikas Yagya" adding that to fuel this, one must sacrifice nepotism, corruption and casteism.

Taking a jibe at the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, Prime Minister Modi said there seems to be a contract between both of them in Uttar Pradesh.

"The SP and BSP make serious allegations against each other but do nothing about them when in power. There is a 'jugalbandi' between Mulayam Singh and Mayawati. Till this contract is not broken, there won't be any development in Uttar Pradesh," he said.

The Prime Minister further credited the formation of a majority government in Centre to the people of Uttar Pradesh.

"Looking at the stage, it is evident what impact Uttar Pradesh has on the government. The Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister all are from UP," he said.

The Prime Minister further praised the previous BJP governments in Uttar Pradesh, saying the state still calls the tenures of Kalyan Singh and Rajnath Singh as it developed greatly under both of them.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the rural electrification project undertaken by the NDA-government, saying 1352 out of 1529 villages have got power within 400 days of his government.

"Only 177 villages in Uttar Pradesh do not have electricity now," he added.

The Prime Minister further credited his government for providing the most farmers friendly crop insurance scheme, since independence.
