All set for PRLIS launch by KCR
HYDERABAD: The Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) is set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on September 16, after Minister V. Srinivas Goud and officials reviewed the arrangements for the same.
Official sources said that the Chief Minister redesigned the PRLIS, recognising the importance of water storage for Telangana’s agricultural prosperity. The redesign has improved Telangana’s water availability by leaps and bounds, they said.
With the redesign, the state can lift around 2.4 TMC of water per day from the Krishna River, a significant leap from the previous proposals to lift 0.5 TMC per day, pre-statehood. The PRLIS increased Telangana's water storage capacity in the Krishna basin from 8 TMC to 75.94 TMC.
The PRLIS, with 67.97 TMC, alongside 147 TMC from the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, is expected to cater to the diverse water needs of the state.
As part of the inauguration, the Chief Minister will launch the PRLIS by lifting Krishna water from Narlapur through the Bahubali pump. These lifts will meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the people of south Telangana, with the project built with the largest pumps in the world, sources said.
Following the wet run inauguration, Rao will also hold a public meeting in Kolhapur Maharashtra. Ministers V. Srinivas Goud and S. Niranjan Reddy, alongside Government Whip Guvwala Balaraju, have undertaken arrangements for the same.
