BJP-BRS spar over derogatory comments on women

BJP Mahila Morcha demanded action against BRS MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah for alleged comments outraging the modesty of women

Hyderabad: A new battlefront has opened between the BRS and the BJP over the issue of leaders from both sides making allegedly derogatory comments about women.

Three days after the BRS began demanding action against BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar for comments against MLC K. Kavitha — that the ED would arrest Kavitha and "not give her a kiss" — while speaking about the Delhi liquor scam, the state BJP Mahila Morcha demanded action against BRS MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah for alleged comments outraging the modesty of women and lodged a complaint with the TS Mahila Commission.

Sanjay — facing summons to appear before the commission on March 15 after it took suo motu notice of his comments— on Tuesday wrote to the commission stating that he would not be able to attend the hearing as he would be in Parliament.

The BJP Mahila Morcha claimed, that Lingaiah had said “BRS workers and leaders will go and kiss the wives of all BJP leaders, including Bandi Sanjay.”

The BJP women’s wing said Lingaiah’s comments were “made with an ulterior motive to target, ridicule the women's modesty and to promote enmity between BJP and BRS activists, which will lead to law and order problem.”

BJP Mahila Morcha president K. Geetha Murthy said that they had lodged a complaint with the National Women’s Commission. She said the TS Women’s Commission chairperson V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy had asked the office of the Director General of Police to inquire into their complaint.
