CPM leaders in Poonjar fear disciplinary action for debacle
KOTTAYAM: A section of CPM leaders in Poonjar is worried over the inquiry of the party's special commission into the electoral debacle. Sources said the leaders feared disciplinary action for the lapses on their part and erosion in votes. The LDF vote share had reduced to almost half here compared to 2011 elections when Mohan Thomas bagged 44, 105 votes in a direct fight with P.C. George, who was in the UDF then.
LDF candidate P.C. Joseph got only 22, 270 votes this time as its votes, mainly of the CPM, went to Mr George, pointing to a massive erosion. The CPM leaders including its incumbent area secretary and two of its local body chiefs are at the needle of suspicion owing to their alleged allegiance to Mr George.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had warned two local leaders including a local committee secretary and a panchayat president for allegedly slow-pacing the electioneering. State secretariat member Baby John, deputed by the party to probe, told DC that he is yet to begin the inquiry. “The process starts after holding discussions in the party forums,” he told DC.
