Disappointed but will continue as loyal party soldier: Dr Ajay Singh
Kalaburagi: “I have a political legacy and I was an aspirant for a ministerial berth. But I’m quite disappointed over the denial of ministerial berth to me in the present coalition government”, was the reaction of Jewargi MLA Dr Ajay Singh, who is the second son of former Chief Minister late N. Dharam Singh.
During an interaction with the media here, Dr Ajay, who was on his first visit to the constituency after his victory, however hastened to add that he would not revolt against the party because of the injustice meted out to him, but would continue as a disciplined solider of the party, as his father did.
“We have a long tradition of being loyal soldiers of the party. When my father was asked to vacate his seat in 1980 after getting elected to the Lok Sabha even before taking oath to enable Mr C.M. Stephen contest, my father resigned without grumbling. I walk in the footsteps of my father and will not join any group which is now fighting for the ministerial berths”, Dr Ajay said.
A second term MLA, he said that he had not lobbied for the ministerial berth during the tenure of Siddaramaiah as his father asked him to have patience. “Even this time, I did not approach anybody other than Mr Mallikarjun Kharge, who is a father figure for me. I don’t why my name was not considered. But I will continue to seek the blessings of Mr Kharge. I as well as the people of my constituency are confident that he will support me and make me a minister when the remaining six vacancies are filled up”, Dr Ajay stated. To a question, he replied that he will not accept chairmanship of any board or corporation.
Asked whether he would support the 2-2-1 formula ( two year, two year, one year) of the Congress high command to enable all MLAs have a chance to become ministers, Dr Ajay said he was not aware of any such formula. “It has not come to my knowledge”, he added.
