Nizamabad: Though the general elections are scheduled over 10 months from now, key contestants in old Nizamabad zone — K. Kavitha from the TRS and D. Arvind from the BJP — have increased their activity to prepare ground for the elections.
Kavitha had made her public appearance in the district as the chief of Telangana Jagruthi. Her in-laws are from Pothangal village in Navipet mandal, giving a family connect to the district.
She was elected as Nizamabad MP in 2014. Of sevem Assembly constituencies under the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, the TRS won six.
In Jagtial, senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy defeated TRS candidate. She wants to wrest Jagtial from the Congress in 2019.
Though Arvind is the son of former AP Congress president D. Srinivas, who now represents the TRS in the Rajya Sabha, he joined the BJP last year and claims himself to be an admirer of Prime Minister Nare-ndra Modi.
With an eye on the Nizamabad LS seat, Mr Arvind is focusing on public issues like Nizam Sugars, extending financial aid to chronic pati-ents from the poor, etc.
