Irate villagers take Uttara Kannada BJP MP Anant Hegde to task
Hubballi: Former Union minister and Uttara Kannada BJP MP Anant Kumar Hedge was at the receiving end of a tongue lashing by flood-hit residents of Neginahal village in Bailhongal taluk who felt he had not responded properly to their pleas for assistance to build new houses.
They told the MP that more than 400 houses had collapsed in the village due to the flood water from the Malaprabha reservoir. They also informed him that people in the village were suffering from malaria and sought assistance from the BJP leader. But Mr Hegde reportedly could not give them an assurance on immediate relief following which the irritated villagers vent their ire on him.
The MP also toured flood-hit villages in Khanapur taluk and expressed anger against officials for not providing adequate information about the number of houses which had collapsed in the taluk. He had earlier said that he would visit the flood victims in Khanapur on Sunday but his tour was postponed following Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to undertake an aerial survey of flood-affected North Karnataka.
