CPM guidelines for party leaders
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM central leadership may have left the decision on E.P. Jayarajan to secretariat, but it is wants the state unit to take immediate corrective measures for checking such lapses in future. The central leadership stopped short of giving any direction to the state unit on what action was required to be taken against Mr Jayarajan. However, sources said CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury was upset over the manner in which appointments had been carried out.
Just four months ago, the CPM-led LDF had received a huge mandate despite hostile campaign of the UDF and BJP. One of the major reasons behind people reposing faith in the CPM was its consistent crusade against previous UDF government’s corruption in bar bribe case and solar scam. The CPM, which is being targeted by the BJP and Sangh Parivar across the country, was keen to showcase the LDF government in Kerala as a corruption- free, development oriented, secular alternative model.
The party felt that such a showcasing of Left alternative was necessary to counter Modi brand of development. Coming as it is just four months after the Pinarayi Vijayan government took office, the controversial appointments have clearly dented the government’s image. The central leadership is of the view that the Left government needs to steer clear from such controversies to concentrate on real issues of the people.
The leadership wants the party workers, leaders and especially the elected representatives who are occupying important positions in government, to stick to party guidelines laid down in rectification documents and plenum documents on organisational, parliamentary and administrative matters. The central leaders believe that the sooner the state unit resolved the matter the better it would be for sending across a clear message to people about party’s “zero tolerance” policy towards corruption.
