OBCs got Important Role Only With Modi: Shah
Bhopal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that it was the Narendra Modi government at the Centre that demonstrated its commitment to the development of OBC according constitutional status of the Backward Classes Commission.
Addressing an election rally at Deotalab in Mauganj district in Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Shah said that Congress is only shedding crocodile tears over the development of Other Backward Classes (OBC) by making caste census demands.
But, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demonstrated his commitment to the development of OBCs by according to constitutional status to the Backward Classes Commission as well as giving as much as 35 percent of posts to the OBC community in his cabinet by appointing 27 OBC ministers, he said.
Congress had neither implemented Kaka Kalekar recommendations nor the Mandal Commission report seeking reservation for OBCs, he said.
He took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi ‘for mentioning caste census in all his speeches wherever he goes’, and wondered if the Congress leader understood the caste census.
“Someone has asked him to mention only caste census wherever he goes to get votes for Congress. That is why he is doing so”, Mr Shah said.
“Rajiv Gandhi opposed the implementation of the Mandal Commission report”, he said.
He accused Congress veteran Kamal Nath of making Madhya Pradesh an ‘ATM of Congress’ when he was the chief minister in the state.
Mr Shah said that the Congress-led UPA government had allocated Rs two lakh crore to Madhya Pradesh in ten years while the Narendra Modi government gave Rs 6.35 lakh crore in the last nine years.
This apart, the Centre also provided Rs five lakh crore for the development of infrastructure in the state.
“But, Kamal Nath has done nothing for the state except making MP the ATM of Congress”, he said.
Madhya Pradesh was turned into a ‘Bimaru’ (laggard) state during the Congress regime. The state has been developed during the 18-year rule of BJP, he said.
He said that Congress always promoted dynastic politics to further the political careers of sons and daughters of the party leaders.
While Sonia Gandhi is keen to see her son Rahul PM, Congress veterans Digvijay Singh and Mr Nath are working to ensure that their sons dominate Congress politics in the state.
The party in which leaders work to promote their sons and daughters and vested interests cannot ensure the development of the country and the welfare of the people, he said.
Mr Shah also addressed an election rally in Jabalpur in the state after holding a huge road show in Jabalpur city.
