Politicians seek end to auction of Rajiv Swagruha plots in Karimnagar
Karimnagar: Leaders of opposition parties staged a dharna at the collectorate demanding that the district administration withdraw its decision to auction 237 plots of the Anagarika township in Rajiv Swagruha neighbourhood in Nasthullapur village of Thimmapur mandal in Karimnagar district.
There are 819 plots in Anagarika township, of which 237 are slated for an auction between June 20 and 26 at Rythu Vedika in Thimmapur, as per an official notification.
However, the decision caused discontent among beneficiaries of the Rajiv Swagruha scheme, who had applied for plots in 2008 by paying Rs 5,000. They have been contending that the move was in favour of realtors and that it denied the rights of the middle-class sections.
City Congress president K. Narendar Reddy, during the protest, alleged that despite the government collecting Rs 5,000 each from 7,000 applicants to allocate a 66-acre area, it was denying their rights and instead, auctioning them to generate revenue.
He demanded the auction be called off and warned of intensifying the agitation if the plots are not allotted to beneficiaries.
Members of Rajiv Swagruha applicants’ welfare association, ex-servicemen, cooperative housing society president Ravula Ranga Reddy, CPI secretary (Kedari) Bismillah Khan, CPM leader G. Mukund Reddy, YSR (TS) leader K. Nagesh, Forward Bloc leader Ambati Joji Reddy and BSP leader Nishani Ramachandram took part in the dharna.
