WARANGAL: The pressure on TRS cadre for meeting membership targets took an awkward turn when a membership receipt with photo of a 15-month-old surfaced .
According to the receipt, Esampelli Aayan Lijoy, born on March 21, 2018 and a resident of Kothawada in Warangal East constituency, took active membership of the TRS by paying the fee.
Mr Elagam Srinu, ex-corporator of division 28, who is responsible for the membership drive in the area, claimed that one of their membership receipts books was missing and this fake receipt was created by miscreants of Opposition parties.
He released a video of Aayan’s grandfather Saraiah saying that his grandson’s photograph was stolen.
“The TRS is receiving a tremendous response for the membership drive. Opposition party leaders who want to tarnish the image of the TRS have released this photo of the membership receipt as given to a 15-month-old baby. We condemn this,” he said.
Opposition leaders called his denials ridiculous. Senior Congress leader Chippa Venkateswarlu asked TRS leaders had not filed a police complaint if one of their receipt books was stolen.
“The books are given to the party cadre according to the serial numbers. Whoever had this particular book must have gone on an enrolment spree just to reach the target given to them. They must find out who the person is. Instead, the party is blaming opposition party leaders for their own incompetence,” he said.
