Naidu's Assets Skyrocketed to Rs 500 Cr in 5 Years as per His Own Election Affidavit
VISHAKHAPATNAM: Former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu currently in judicial remand at Rajahmundry Central Jail, has amassed a wealth of Rs 491 crore in five years of his rule of Andhra Pradesh, as per his poll affidavit.
According to his self-sworn affidavit submitted to the Election Commission at the time of the 2014 elections, Naidu's declared assets were of Rs 177 crore and his liabilities Rs 16 crore. According to the Association of Democratic Reforms, which reviewed the wealth charts of senior politicians, Naidu was the richest Chief Minister in India, based on the 2014 poll affidavits.
Naidu declared possession of assets worth '668 crore during the 2019 elections with a liability of Rs 15 crore. This made him the fourth richest MLA in the country.
The Telugu Desam chief currently faces charges of funds misappropriation vis-à-vis the Skill Development Corporation scam.
According to ADR, Karnataka’s present deputy chief minister D.K. Shivakumar is the richest MLA.
ADR prepared this report after examining the election affidavits of 4,001 MLAs in 28 states and 2 Union Territories. Among the top 10 richest MLAs, four legislators belong to the Congress, while three are from the BJP.
Shivakumar (Congress) is on top of this list. According to the 2023 election affidavit, the value of his assets is Rs 1,413 crore.
Karnataka MLA Puttaswamy Gowda (independent candidate) is in the second position. His property is worth Rs 1,267 crore. Priyakrishna of Karnataka Congress is in the third position. He has '1,156 crore of wealth.
TD chief Chandrababu Naidu is fourth in the list. According to the affidavit submitted by him during the 2019 elections, his assets are valued at '668 crore.
“There is an abnormal increase in the land prices in Hyderabad. In some places, it has gone up by 100 per cent during this period. It is no surprise Chandrababu Naidu's assets have gone up so much in five years,’’ said former BJP MLA, P. Vishnu Kumar Raju.
