Tirupati: Nellore Municipal Corporation mayor Potluru Sravanti, who had been a staunch supporter of YSR Congress rebel MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, who has since joined Telugu Desam, has made a surprising U turn and announced her return to the ruling party camp.
Sravanti's return to YSRC came after a series of meetings between her and top ruling party leadership in Tadepalli. She was accompanied in the discussions by her husband Jayavardhan.
The move indicates a significant shift in intricate political dynamics of Nellore Rural constituency, as Sravanti had been a prominent member of the anti-YSRC faction until now.
When Nellore Rural legislator Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy left the ruling party, Sravanti, serving as the Nellore mayor, had vocally supported the rebel MLA and distanced herself from YSRC.
Amid these developments, Sridhar Reddy's brother, Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy, joined the TD. He was followed by Jayavardhan, Sravanti's husband. However, Sravanti did not officially join the Telugu Desam, but continued to extend her support to Sridhar Reddy.
Recent reports suggest that disagreements have developed between the mayor couple and Giridhar Reddy, straining their relations. Despite Sridhar Reddy’s efforts to mediate and resolve these differences, the rift persisted.
In light of these developments, Sravanti and Jayavardhan recently met YSRC leader and government adviser Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy in Tadepalli, which ultimately led to their decision to return to the ruling party fold.
Upon their return to Nellore from Tadepalli, the mayor couple met MP Adala Prabhakar Reddy at the residence of Rajya Sabha member Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy. In this meeting, the couple is said to have expressed the desire to continue their political journey with YSRC.
Party sources reveal that Nellore deputy mayor Roop Kumar Yadav played a significant role in facilitating Sravanti's return to YSRC. Ahead of the mayor’s return to YSRC, a few Nellore city corporators, who had joined Sridhar Reddy’s camp, have also returned to the YSRC fold.
