Ruling DMK’s youth wing organizes state-wide protest

CHENNAI: The ruling DMK’s youth and student wings organised prothests all over the state to oppose the Union government’s alleged move to impose Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states and making it the medium of instruction in elite institutions like IITs, IIMS and AIIMS as recommended by the Parliamentary committee headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The party's youth wing secretary, Udhayanidhi Stalin, addressing the protestors who had gathered at the protest venue near Valluvar Kottam in Chennai, warned the BJP government of escalating the protest and turning it into a major agitation if it did not give up its plans for imposing Hindi on the state.

Recalling the DMK’s past agitations against Hindi, he said the party would not allow the language to be made compulsory in the state. Similar protests were also held in all the district headquarters with the party MLAs and other functionaries taking part in them.

Telling the BJP government that the state was not ruled by Edappadi K Palaniswami but by Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, he said that the BJP's gameplans would not work under the present regime.

Meanwhile, BJP state president K. Annamalai said that his party would also organize protests all over the state to expose the DMK’s plan to create a wrong impression about the Union government’s Hindi proposal to impose Hindi on non-Hindi speaking state.

He alleged that the DMK was raising the issue for political gains and that the BJP government at the Centre had no plans of making Hindi compulsory in all-India entrance examinations.
