Cong. delegation to seek Ambedkar statue installation at Punjagutta
HYDERABAD: A contingent of Congress leaders, led by TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy, will meet Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari on Wednesday to demand the
installation of an Ambedkar statue at Punjagutta.
Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao attempted to install the statue in 2019 but was thwarted by the police, who took custody of the statue. However, following court orders to hand over the statue to Rao, Congress leaders want it installed at the same location.
“We sought appointment of the Chief Secretary on January 18 to push with the
demand. PCC chief Revanth Reddy will be leading the team visiting the official. Since the Chief Minister has named the new Secretariat after Ambedkar, the installation of statue at the same location will be in accordance with the honour given to the architect of the Constitution, hence our demand,” Hanumantha Rao said, addressing mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday.
On January 17, the Congress will also organise a programme to push the idea,
by inviting leaders of other political parties and civil society groups to the Somajiguda Press Club. Leaders, including Gaddar and TJS chief Prof.
Kodandaram, are expected to be in attendance.
Rao also recalled his interactions with Mukkaram Jah, the grandson of the last Nizam who passed away recently, and said that he was uniform in his treatment of others, irrespective of faith.
