BENGALURU: Criticising Maharashtra government's decision to extend its schemes in 865 villages of Karnataka, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) D.K. Shivakumar termed it as an attempt to ‘disintegrate’ Karnataka by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and observed that ‘A vote for BJP is a vote to divide Karnataka, to take away our territory and also to disregard our culture.’
They drew the attention of President Droupadi Murmu stating that the “Case is a fit to dismiss the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shinde government of Maharashtra under Article 356 of the Constitution” over Maharashtra Government’s decision to extend their schemes in Karnataka’s territory stating that "It is nothing short of legally sanctioned anarchy and annihilation of Constitutional principles."
In a joint press release by the leaders on Thursday, they alleged a conspiracy hatched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take away the territory of Karnataka and that the extension of Maharashtra Government’s scheme in Karnataka villages is with the tacit consent of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
They stated “People of Karnataka will never pardon PM Narendra Modi and his Government for this diabolical blow on the soul of Karnataka.”
Regarding the silence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai over the issue, the Congress leaders alleged that the BJP government led by a weak-kneed and timid Chief Minister of ‘deliberately’ watching the ‘disintegration’ of the State and accused the BJP leaders of being scared of even uttering a word.
Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar vowed to defend every inch of the State’s territory and exuded confidence in defeating the BJP and its ugly design.
