Emotional Jagan says his goal is to eradicate poverty

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy turned emotional while explaining his welfare policy in the Assembly on Wednesday by stating “My definition of economics is to eradicate poverty.”

The Chief Minister turned sensitive to the criticism that his government was only after welfare at the cost of economic development of the state. He said, “The opposition simply talked about things like Microsoft, Bill Gates and bullet train. But I remain grounded. My journey is with the common man, my journey is with the poor. My battle is against those who rob the poor. My goal is to eradicate poverty.”

Explaining his economic philosophy, the CM said, “A society can become strong only if the poor families are nursed and made financially strong. The state will do well only if all the regions and all groups are strengthened. This is the socio-economic principle I believe in. This is the economics, politics and history that I had learnt from my father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.”

Defining development, Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Development is what? When today is better than yesterday, and tomorrow is better than today, it means development. My goal is to eliminate poverty. And this is my economics, and this is my politics.”

He said that the process of 15,004 village and ward secretariats coupled with 10,778 Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs) extending more than 600 civic services was the major change AP witnessed after the YSRC came to power.

“In an unprecedented manner, 2, 65,000 volunteers are extending services to the people across the state with each volunteer working for 50 houses,” he noted.
