BJP tries to wean away Telugu NRIs
Hyderabad: In its effort to decimate all opposition parties, the BJP is making strenuous efforts to increase its base among NRIs hailing from the Telugu states. To this end, the party’s Gulf coordination committee will hold an important meeting on September 27 in Muscat.
National Executive member N. Ramachandra Rao will be the chief guest as he has been given the responsibility of looking after Gulf issues by the party. Most Telugu NRIs are with the TRS, the TD or the YSRC, and the BJP is trying to wean them away. The BJP inte-nds to hold meetings regularly in the Gulf countries in preparation for the next Assembly election.
BJP Gulf coordination committee chairman T.R. Srinivas said the BJP has a good chance of getting Telugu members from the Gulf states and is now taking forward its membership drive.
Mr Srinivas said the BJP is getting a “good response” from Telangana NRIs and workers. “People have good faith in PM Modi. After the successful first Telangana NRI Gulf meet held on August 9 in Dubai, it is now planned to hold the next meeting in Muscat on September 27 with 2,000 people from across the Gulf region.”
He said this programme was mainly for increasing the base of the BJP within Telangana NRIs.
