Ulema opposed British: Jamiat
Hyderabad: Independence Day was celebrated with joy and excitement in the Old City. The Owaisi brothers and other MLAs unfurled the Tricolour at various places.
MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi hoisted the flag at Madina Circle and participated in various functions held in connection with the Independence Day celebrations, while his younger brother, Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, unfurled the national flag at the educational institutions run by the Trust founded by him. Party MLAs participated in functions organised in their constituencies.
Moulana Hafiz Peer Shabbir Ahmed, president, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Telangana and Andhra Pradesh chapter hoisted the National Flag at the organisation’s office situated at Masjid Zam Zam at Amberpet.
He said Moulana Abdul Aziz Dahlvi had raised the first voice of liberation from the British rule.
“The role of the ulema in the independence struggle was commendable. According to historian Ram Gupta, about 50,000 ulemas and 5 lakh Muslims sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle,” he said.
BJP Minority Morcha leaders also participated in Independence Day functions.
Mr Mir Firasat Ali Baquari and others hoisted the National Flag at the ground adjacent to Jamia Masjid Darusshifa.
