TRS likely to replace 20-25 GHMC corporators, ahead of elections

The State Election Commission has to constitute the new council for the GHMC by February 10, 2021.

Hyderabad: The TRS could replace between 20 and 25 corporators out of the 100 that it has in the GHMC Council, ahead of the elections. The ruling party is said to be ready for the contest, which promises to be one of the most fiercely found polls in recent times.

The state government is expected to communicate to the State Election Commission (SEC) anytime within the next two weeks that it is ready for elections.

The SEC has published the final list of voters and has said that it has almost completed the pre-poll process and will be ready to announce the election schedule. The SEC has to constitute the new council for the GHMC by February 10, 2021.

Sources disclosed that, during internal meetings, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao had indicated to party leaders that surveys had showed that people were not happy with the performance of about 15 to 20 corporators.

The TRS has also recently conducted an internal survey about the performance of the corporators, sources said.

Some more corporators would be displaced due to local factors and political reasons. Sources revealed that Rama Rao had secured division-wise feedback of winning horses and he will give priority to candidates with better winning chances rather than go by seniority.

While this is so, there is intense lobbying among corporators and aspirants for tickets.

While this is so, Rama Rao has been busy in recent days inaugurating completed projects and laying the foundation stones for new ones, and announcing sops for the people.

Sources said that in coming two weeks, Rama will concentrate on distribution of double bedroom houses to the beneficiaries as per his promise to deliver them before end of December 2020. Once the task is complete, the party will reveal its poll strategy.
