Actor Vijayakumar joins BJP
Chennai: Actor Vijayakumar who joined the BJP on Wednesday in the presence of Union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, said he would campaign for the saffron party for this Assembly election.
The veteran south Indian, who has acted in over 800 films, said he would hit the campaign trail as and when advised by the BJP high command. He is the latest to join the state BJP. Recently actor-director Visu had joined the party and earlier actress Gayathri Jayaraman and music composer Gangai Amaran had joined the party.
“I am known in all the southern states by virtue of my acting in all the regional language movies. People in Tamil Nadu know me well,” Mr Vijayakumar said on his joining the BJP. He hailed PM Narendra Modi and his government’s numerous schemes and said they should reach all the states and state governments concerned should cooperate for the successful implementation of Central schemes. He said he did not join the party aiming to contest the poll but wanted to strive for the BJP’s victory in the Assembly election.
