Forget VSP, revive NSF, set up steel plant at Bayyaram: Kishan tells KCR

HYDERABAD: Union tourism minister G. Kishan Reddy said that the BRS government had no moral right to comment on the divestment of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). Instead, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao would be doing a favour for the people of the state if the government took over the Nizam Sugar Factory (NSF), which he promised to do within 100 days of coming to power, Kishan Reddy said.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Reddy said that the state government was trying to divert the attention of the people from its failures by highlighting the VSP disinvestment proposal. “It is a political drama enacted by BRS ministers,” he said. The Centre had declared its stand on the VSP, he said. If Rao was sincere about reviving factories, the BRS government should take up the Bayyaram steel plant issue, he suggested.

The Union minister accused the Kalvakuntla family of spreading lies with regard to the VSP as the utterances were meant to serve their political interests. He said that the people of Khammam district in particular should question the BRS government about the fate of the Bayyaram steel plant.

Reddy said that the Chief Minister came up with the 125-foot-tall statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in Hyderabad to derive political advantage. Rao’s true colours were exposed the day he sought changes in the Constitution, he said. Kishan Reddy said that Rao has time for Iftar parties, but is unable to visit the Bhadrachalam shrine.

Reacting to the arrest of Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy, father of YSRC MP Avinash Reddy, in the former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case, Kishan Reddy said that the law will take its own course.

He asked MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi to react when people were forced to sell their properties and leave the Old City, instead of commenting on the encounter death of gangster Atiq Ahmad in Uttar Pradesh.
