Congress seeks to woo BRS rebels into its fold

HYDERABAD: In an attempt to strengthen the party and cadre and spread their support base, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders are concentrating on getting BRS dissidents, especially in districts, to join the Congress fold.

As part of the plan, TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy on Friday met Kodangal BRS leader and former MLA R. Gurunath Reddy at his residence here. The two reportedly discussed the political scenario.

The TPCC president formally invited the former MLA into the Congress; he will be joining the party at Gandhi Bhavan here on Sunday.

AICC leaders P.C. Viswanath and Mansur Ali Khan, who are in town, admitted Achampet BRS leader Gangapuram Rajender, former ZPTC member Bheemudu Naik, mandal leaders of Achampet and Charagonda, into the Congress on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said that the Congress was poised to come to power in Telangana. The four crore people of the state had been bearing the brunt of BRS excesses and misrule and were waiting for an opportunity to unseat the Chandrashekar Rao government, he said.
"Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao floated the party for collections. Chinna Reddy from Palamuru initiated the Telangana statehood movement. Rajender, who joined Congress on Friday, was active in the Telangana movement," Revanth Reddy said.

On June 10, BRS MLC Kuchukulla Damodar Reddy held discussions with TPCC leader Mallu Ravi on joining the Congress. Pictures of their meeting appeared prominently in the media on Sunday.
