99 per cent agreement on districts: Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, who is heading the five-member Cabinet subcommittee on creation of new districts in TS, on Tuesday said there was “99 per cent agreement on the proposed new districts, barring one or two.”

He told DC that opinions of elected representatives and others from various districts were being compiled in a report that will be submitted to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Asked about the demand for new districts from various quarters, the Deputy CM said, “Barring one or two cases, there was 99 per cent agreement during our interactions. There was a strong demand for new Jangaon and Gadwal districts. We will compile opinions of the district representatives and submit them to the CM.”

“Once the report is submitted an all-party meeting will be convened by the CM,” he said.

Asked about the fate of Hyderabad, Mr Mahmood Ali said that some demands are for retaining of existing Hyderabad district while others sought Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Ranga Reddy districts with parts of RR district to be merged with Secunderabad and Hyderabad.

“The number of districts and other issues will be decided by the CM. It could be 24 or more,” he added.
