CWC pats Rahul's efforts for Bharat Jodo Yatra

Hyderabad: The CWC (Congress Working Committee), the top policy-making body of the Congress which met in Hyderabad, acknowledged the first anniversary of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, calling it a transformational moment in the nation’s politics and credited it for uniting the country.

It said the yatra united people against the forces that are dividing India; to raise the voices of the people against growing inequality, falling incomes, rising youth unemployment and the sky-high prices of essential commodities; and to resist the growing authoritarianism, the capture of democratic institutions and the attack on our federal structure.

It further congratulated the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge on completing one year as the Congress president and put its appreciation on record. The party expressed its sympathies to the families of Army and police officers who died in the line of duty in J&K.

It added, “As the nation was mourning their deaths, the BJP was busy in a celebratory mode congratulating itself for holding the G20.”

The CWC reiterated the party’s demand for a JPC into the revelations on the Adani Group which it said has been the prime beneficiary of the Prime Minister’s close friendship and the government’s biased policies and administrative largesse.

Rejecting the call for a new Constitution, it called it a mischievous argument that the basic structure of the Constitution can be changed and called it an assault on the Constitution.

It called on the democratic forces to safeguard its ideals, as drafted by Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar and his compatriots. It found fault with the hypocrisy and duplicity of the Modi government “which showcases to the world the symbolism of Mahatma Gandhi while giving a free hand to those who defame him and defile his legacy.”
