HYDERABAD: The Government of India is all set to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on Sunday morning at the Parade Ground, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah will receive a guard of honour from central security force contingents. This will be followed by a march past by cultural troupes from Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka, Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said on Saturday.
Shah, who will address the gathering afterwards, will also be honouring surviving members of families that were victims of Razakaars in the run-up to the liberation of the then Hyderabad state, as well as survivors who fought the Razakaars, Kishan Reddy said.
“The home minister will be releasing special postal covers commemorating the lives of heroes of Telangana’s armed struggle, Ramji Gond, and journalist Shoaibullah Khan, from Hyderabad, who fought against the Nizam through his writings. Shah will also be inaugurating a virtual exhibition depicting the history of the armed struggle, the role of Razakaars, and the final liberation of Hyderabad,” Kishan Reddy said.
The Union culture minister said chief ministers of Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka have been invited to the celebrations.
“Although the Telangana Chief Minister, while in Opposition in unified Andhra Pradesh, repeatedly demanded that Hyderabad Liberation Day must be celebrated, he changed his tune after coming to power. This is unfortunate and since the Telangana government refuses to celebrate the liberation of Hyderabad, the Government of India has decided to do so for the second year in running,” he said.
