BJP justifies Governor Banwarilal Purohit review, says it will invigorate Tamil Nadu

Opposition parties protest to gain political mileage: Tamilisai.

Chennai: The state unit of the BJP described Governor Banwarilal Purohit's review meetings as his “new initiative” and claimed that the Governor's “treatment will invigorate” Tamil Nadu.

At a time when opposition parties in the State, including the saffron party's erstwhile allies, criticised Mr Purohit for “meddling” with the administration, BJP justified his action and the party president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said he had launched clean India campaign. Hailing his efforts, she said “his treatment will invigorate Tamil Nadu. His review shows his interest (to better the state) and not interference,” she said.

Flaying the opposition parties for criticising him, she said it was normal and respectable for the Governor to consult officials in Coimbatore. “Opposition parties are protesting to gain political mileage”, Dr Tamilisai added.

The party's national secretary H. Raja too came out in support of Mr. Purohit and asserted that it was the duty of the Governor to consult officials. The Governor had expressed his intent to continue such meetings in other districts, he said and added that “it is the wish of the people that such meetings continue.”

A day after he participated in the Swachch Bharat Campaign in the Textile City, the Governor interacted with farmers in Tirupur on Thursday. On Wednesday, the Governor wielded a broom and swept the premises of the Gandhipuram Town bus stand and later inspected the e-toilets and a public toilet in and around the bus stand. He had told reporters that he would visit all districts in the state every year.
