Women, youth give big boost to Rahul Gandhi as he holds road show in Warangal
Warangal: A large number of people, especially women and youth, along with the Congress activists enthusiastically participated in a road show held by AICC leader Rahul Gandhi from Mamnoor cross road to the Pochamma Maidan junction here on Friday.
The Congress party made elaborate arrangements for the road show and for the corner meeting at Pocham Maidan junction.
Learning that Rahul Gandhi was visiting the historic Warangal city, hordes of people reached Mamnoor cross road and voluntarily participated in the pada-yatra along with him while others attended the street corner meeting.
Akram Pasha, who runs a Pan shop at the junction, told Deccan Chronicle that right from the morning, there was unusually heavy rush for pan at his shop. “They came for Rahul Gandhi’s programme and the crowd swelled by the rime he reached the venue.”
An aged woman Sugunamma, who came along with others from Enumamula colony, sat on the footsteps of a shopping centre near the venue of the meeting. She said she wanted to see the grandson of Indiramma. (Maa Indiramma manavudini chudadaniki vachha).
“Rahul Gandhi is so fair (Chala Tellaga unnadu) and he speaks like Indiramma only,” she noted.
She also complained about the BRS party. “I am poor, can’t work, and not getting pension for the past two years. Even after going round the offices and giving a bribe of '2,000 for BRS party leaders, they are not sanctioning a pension for me,” she said.
Two youths, Vinay and Balraj who completed their B.Tech, came all the way from Huzurabad to see Rahul Gandhi. Speaking to DC, they said they were inspired by Rahul Gandhi as “he represents the modern day and the youth of the country.”
In recent times, Rahul Gandhi has been proactive, enthusiastic and mixing with the ordinary masses across the country. He is trying to know the problems of the poor by directly reaching out to them and interacting with them. He is committed to the uplift of the people and the country,” they cooed.
Laxmi Narayana, a retired teacher, said that the “people are overwhelmed by the promises he is making, along with the way he is explaining the six guarantees. He is striving hard and confident of bringing the past glory to the Congress.”
Meanwhile, after noticing that some women and children were waving at him from the top of the buildings near the meeting venue, Rahul Gandhi sported a smile and waved back at them.
