All political parties urge to give Vijayawada LS ticket to BCs
Vijayawada: Leaders from several BC associations, led by APBC Sangham, demanded all political parties to give the Vijayawada Lok Sabha ticket to BCs in the 2024 elections considering that their population was the highest in all seven segments of the Vijayawada parliament constituency.
A resolution to this extent was passed during an intellectuals meeting of 40 BC associations here on Sunday.
Andhra Pradesh BC Sangham state president Dr. N. Naresh said that this message would be sent across to YSR Congress president and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena chief K. Pawan Kalyan and state unit presidents of Congress and the BJP.
He lamented that BCs were never considered for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat in the last 17 elections as the seat was in the hands of one particular social group for more than 70 years, and it is against the spirit of democracy.
He further pointed out that out of the seven Assembly constituencies in the parliament seat, two are in the reserved category while none of the other five has a BC legislator.
Stating that of the overall population of the segment’s 16 lakh, eight were BCs; minorities and SC/STs together formed four lakh while the population of Kapus was two lakh, Dr. Maresh said that all political parties should take the population ratio into account while allotting tickets.
“We will organise BC meetings on a larger scale in the coming days beginning with one in Tiruvuru constituency. We will be seeking the support of SCs, STs, BCs, minorities and kapus,” he said.
Leaders of BC Associations, including T. Arjun Rao, Vemula Baby Rani, E. Jagdish, Morla Mahidhar, Bejawada Ganesh, Jakka Srinivasa Rao and others, also addressed the meeting
