Left parties will jointly contest the next Assembly polls: CPI

HYDERABAD: CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao said that CPI and CPM would jointly contest the upcoming Assembly polls in Telangana. He stated that a joint public meeting of the Left parties will be held soon.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, he said the two parties will not beg for an alliance with anyone else. He said that the Left parties were strong in several constituencies where they could impact the prospects of other contenders, one way or the other.

"We will not run around other parties for an alliance. However, should they approach us, we will take a call," he said. While the Left had tied up with the BRS for the November 3 Munugode by-election, TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy had recently stated that the Left would ally with Congress at the national level.

Admitting that they had committed a blunder by aligning with different parties in the 2018 Assembly polls, the once-bitten-twice-shy Rao said that this would not be repeated in the coming Assembly elections in the state.
While CPI was part of a 'grand alliance' comprising Congress, TD and TJS in 2018, CPM was part of Bahujan Left Front (BLF), comprising 28 political, social and minority organisations led by the CPM. Left Parties supported TRS (now BRS) in the Munugode Assembly by-election.

BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, while addressing a public meeting in Munugode, had announced that their friendship with Left parties was not confined to Munugode but would continue into the future.
