RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: East Godavari Collector Madhavi Latha has asked quarry lease contractors to construct walls across the quarries to protect the residents living close to the quarry areas.
She convened a meeting here on Tuesday and said some quarry leaseholders have dug up mines near Ramadasu Peta area between 1992 and 2015 and the government had given permission to mine the quarries for lease to 50 contractors.
She said though the lease period has ended, the contractors have not taken up the protection steps. Now, the residents near the quarry areas have aired their insecurity and hence the protection walls should be erected.
Quarry contractors say they have come forward to construct the protection walls, but some people in the area have raised objections and this caused hindrances to their work.
The collector said revenue and other officials would visit the area and sort out the issues.
