BJP promises empowerment of BCs in state

HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party has declared that the more than 50 per cent of the state’s population that comprise Backward Classes in Telangana state will be a major focus for it in the run-up to the Assembly elections later this year with its announcement of a BC Declaration.

The state BJP, at its OBC Morcha convention here on Thursday, assured that once the BJP assumes power in Telangana state, it will implement a slew of measures aimed at improved and targeted welfare for all the BC communities in the state.

The promise of better days for BCs under a BJP government was made by BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and the party’s national OBC Morcha president and Rajya Sabha member Dr. K. Laxman. Among the promises were implementation of a BC sub-plan and funds based on their population and empowering state BC commission.

Taking on the BRS government on BC welfare, Huzurabad MLA Etala Rajendar said that not a single rupee was released between 2019 and 2022-23 by the BRS government for the 11 BC federations in the state.

Sanjay Kumar said that the OBC meeting was not against any community but to take stock of the status of BCs in Telangana and how the KCR government has been insulting this section at every step.

“What has KCR done for the BCs? His only contribution is to keep them suppressed by restricting them to their traditional occupations of cattle, sheep rearing, and fisheries and not letting them grow politically,” Sanjay said.

Laxman said it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has given BCs the place of pride they deserve by implementing their rightful reservations.

“In the next elections, the BJP will focus on BCs and their welfare as it strived to come to power in the state. Questioning KCR on why he did not give adequate representation to BCs in his cabinet. Though Rs 2,500 crore was allocated on paper for the Most Backward Classes Corporation, only Rs seven crore has been spent. Is it a sin to be a Hindu BC in Telangana?” Laxman wondered.
