Amaravati: Congress senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao has asked the people of AP and Telangana to revolt against the respective governments in their states drawing inspiration from those in Turkey.
The Congress senior leader was in Guntur on Sunday to express condolences to Telugu Desam MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, whose wife Leela Kumari, passed away on Saturday.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Hanumantha Rao alleged that the TD-led government in AP and the TRS-led government in TS were promoting defections.
He said switching of loyalties by the elected representatives was a threat to the democracy.
“Legislators of all the Opposition parties are flocking to the ruling parties in AP and TS and this is against the wish of the people who elected them,” he said. “Both the TRS and TD are trying to eliminate Opposition parties in the respective states.”
Mr. Hanumantha Rao said the Congress was facing the curse of the Telugu public and experiencing bad times for its wrongdoings.
He said the Congress was fighting for the fulfillment of promises made during the time of bifrucation of the state, particularly for Special Category Status to residuary AP.
Mentioning about the revolution of people in Turkey against military coup, he said people in AP and TS should also revolt against the legislators who deceive them by changing parties.
Mr. Rao said the people in AP and TS will teach a befitting lesson to the ruling parties in the future elections and expressed hope the Congress would gain public support again.
