Uttam condemns release of Bilkis case convicts

Hyderabad: Former Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief and Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly condemned the release of 11 gang rape and murder convicts by the BJP government in Gujarat.

In a media statement, he said Prime Minister Modi spoke about giving respect and honour to women on his Independence Day speech. A few hours later, the BJP government in Gujarat released 11 persons who were convicted by courts for gang rape and multiple murders in the Bilkis Bano case of 2002 riots. “They were also accorded a grand reception by the RSS and BJP leaders on their release. This is highly shameful and the decision must be reversed," he demanded.

He alleged that Modi misused the occasion of Independence Day to make fake promises in his customary ‘Address to the Nation’ from the Red Fort on every occasion in the last eight years. He reminded that in the Independence Day speech of 2016, Modi had promised to double farmers’ income, ensure a house for everyone and electrification of the entire country by 2022. He said the BJP government has miserably failed in achieving its targets.
