Bengaluru: No party will get a clear majority and it will be a coalition, but shortlived, government in Karnataka, predicted well-known astrologer K.N. Somayaji. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, he said that the state’s political landscape will witness significant realignments and readjustments until April 23 and clearer picture will emerge only a day after that.
Do you think Congress and Siddaramaiah will make a comeback this time?
It’s too early to talk about political fortunes of any party in Karnataka. A lot of changes, readjustments and realignments are expected in the state until 23rd of this month. Post that, on April 24, we will know where each party stands. But as far as I can see, no party is going to have a clear mandate and the next government is going to be formed with the JD(S), but it will be short lived with hiccups from the first year itself.
Will Siddaramaiah’s gamble of giving religion status to Lingayats help Congress win the election?
I don’t see it helping Congress in a big way. For the time being there is some excitement in getting the status, but it will not stay for long. In fact, younger generation is never attracted to special category based reservation.
What do you predict for D.K. Shivakumar?
D.K.S. has a very bright career in Karnataka politics, but in the future.
Will BJP make a come to power at the Centre in 2019?
Whether the party will retain the power or not, a lot depends on what’s going to happen in Karnataka in this election. The tone for the future of the party will be set here.
