Congress corporators being forced to join TRS

Funds being denied to wards won by Opposition

Khammam: Congress corporators in Khammam Municipal Corporation say their wards are being denied their share of funds by the TRS party that rules the corporation, as part of attempts to force them to join the ruling party.

“No funds are being allocated to the wards won by opposition parties. We do not even get the permission to set up a flexi board in our wards. Cases are filed against us for doing such things. Democratic rights are denied to us,” they alleged on Monday.

“We are facing immense pressure from ruling party to quit the Congress and join the TRS,” said corporators Maleedu Venkateswarlu, Palleboina Bharathi, and Duddukuri Venkateswarlu.

Venkateswarlu said it was no more possible for them to hold any public programme. “Police would file a case under some section of IPC if we hold a meeting. This is a virtual dictatorship,” he said.

The three-spoke to some media personnel in the presence of Congress Khammam town working president Javed Mahammad. They said they were afraid of holding a formal press conference to make these complaints.

Venkateswarlu said local TRS leaders “want the Congress corporators to join the TRS” in the presence of minister KT Rama Rao during his visit here later this month. “We are also unable to meet the people of our corporation areas freely,” he said.

Palleboina Bharathi said, “We have not been granted any work or fund for our divisions from KMC. The wards won by opposition parties are being considered as ‘enemy wards’ and we are unable to meet the civic requirements of our people.”
