No politics in my work, asserts Telangana Governor
HYDERABAD: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed disappointment over attempts by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders and ministers to attribute political motives to her in discharging her duties in Telangana, saying that she had been keeping the Centre apprised of ‘all developments’ in the state in her monthly reports.
During an informal chat with reporters in New Delhi on Monday, the Governor, who in the recent past made clear her displeasure over the shoddy treatment her office has been receiving from the TRS government, said her entire focus was to do good for the people of Telangana but it was disappointing to see political motives being attributed to her.
She also added that as the Governor of the state and to her duties and work, she had the support of the President, the Vice-President, and the Prime Minister.
The Governor, responding to allegations levelled at her that she was looking for reason to dissolve the TRS government, dismissed all such talk.
“Where was the need for such criticism? The post of the Governor is not given to anyone and everyone. Irrespective of what post I hold, my entire focus has always been the welfare of people. Those criticising me do not like me working for people. But none of these will stop me from working for the welfare of people,” she said.
On repeated protocol violations she has been subjected to in Telangana, Dr Soundararajan said the Centre would do what it needed to do on this front. The office of the Governor had special powers and it was in this context she took up a programme for the development of tribal communities in Telangana, she said.
She also said invitations sent by the Governor should never be seen through a political prism, and in other states, despite differences between the governments and the Governors, the former always ensured that the office of the Governor was respected.
