Scrap GO No. 217 and save fishermen, demands Andhra Pradesh BJP

The CM had sold 2,800 acres of land, belonging to the port, for Rs 4600 crore apart from the state share to Adani group

NELLORE: BJP state vice-president G. Chandramouli slammed the state government for adversely impacting the livelihood of fishermen with an ill-advised GO. No. 217.

He alleged that the community has lost its traditional rights of fishing in canals, lakes, tanks, rivers and sea because of the G.O. while YSRC men were acting as middlemen and ruling the roost in all fishing activities.

Speaking to media here on Sunday, he said that the party’s state unit president Somu Veerraju had written to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on the issue and had sought his intervention to help the fishermen. Chandramouli demanded the state government to provide boats, fishing nets, engines and cold-storage facilities to fishermen. He alleged that the state government has not taken any steps for construction of jetties or creation of employment for the community.

He blamed both N. Chandrababu Naidu and Jagan Mohan Reddy on the Gangavaram Port issue. He alleged that Reddy had sold 2,800 acres of land, belonging to the port, for Rs 4600 crore apart from the state share of 10.4 per cent for Rs 640 crore to Adani group.

He said that the party would stage protests before collectorates across the state against GO No. 217 on Wednesday.

“We will not allow the dominance of YSR Congress leaders over water bodies” the BJP leader said.

Party state vice-president P. Surendra Reddy, fishermen cell state co-convener Angeeru Janardhan and district convener Gandhi were also present.
