BJP Central Election Committee Meets to Finalise List for TS

Hyderabad: The BJP’s Central Election Committee, whose meeting is underway in New Delhi, is likely to discuss the final list of candidates for the Telangana Assembly polls. Sources indicate that Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh lists could be finalised before the Telangana candidates.

The party, which received around 6,000 applications for the 119 Assembly constituencies, has sent names of two candidates for most Assembly constituencies to the central leadership. In cases where there are more contenders, three names have been sent.

The list of candidates sent from the state will be discussed by the parliamentary board, Central Election Commission with the in-charges of the state like Tarun Chugh, Sunil Bansal and Prakash Javadekar in attendance.

The BJP will announce the short-listed candidates after discussing with the party in-charges and state party president.

“Various parameters such as caste, representation of women are also likely to be factored in. Discussions are going on to field more BCs and women in the state. The party will try to reach a consensus on the candidates,” said N.V. Subhash, official spokesperson for BJP.
