Cash seizure in poll-bound Telangana nears Rs 250 crore
Hyderabad: The police, between October 18 and 9 am of October 19, seized Rs 78 crore of unaccounted cash, taking the total seizures in the 10-day-long checks to Rs 243 crore, so far.
In the two-day period, 6,132 litres of liquor worth Rs 1.21 crore were seized, 786 kg of jaggery and 41 kg of alum were seized. Ganja worth Rs 16.77 lakh was seized, taking the total to Rs 7.72 crore, with 2,950 kgs confiscated, the police said.
Further, 83 kg of gold and 212 kg of silver were seized, taking the total to 181 kg of gold, amounting to Rs 120 crore, and 693 kg of silver. Besides, 154 carats of diamonds were also seized on October 18-19, the police said.
The police confiscated freebies, including laptops, cookers and other appliances, worth Rs 8.84 crore and 3,900 kg of rice in the two-day period, taking the total to 43,700 kg of rice in the 10-day period. Six twenty-seven saris were also seized in the two-day period.
In vehicle checks, the LB Nagar SOT seized Rs 97 lakh cash from one Kadirika Rajesh, a collection agent of Havmor restaurant in Secunderabad.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police seized Rs 9 lakh and handed it over to revenue officials. The Nagarkurnool police seized Rs 13.54 lakh and the Nalgonda police seized Rs 12.20 lakh.
