Hyderabad: Cutting across party lines, several GHMC corporators are giving the jitters to their bosses and Assembly election contestants with their demands for importance
Serilingampally, Jubilee Hills, Amberpet, LB Nagar and Uppal are a few constituencies where corporators are making the candidates realise their importance.
While two BRS corporators from Serilingampally — Jagadeeshwar Goud and his wife Pujitha — have shifted to the Congress, a BJP corporator from Amberpet constituency, Padma Venkat Reddy, has joined the BJP. Congress corporator Singireddy Sirisha Reddy from Uppal constituency has quit the Congress along with her husband Singireddy Somasekhar Reddy, a state Congress secretary.
A visit to some of the wards showed that the candidates were trying hard to keep the corporators in a good mood. Gone are the days when the corporators used to organise rallies, accompany their local MLA for events and try to get into their good books.
At Jubilee Hills constituency, BRS candidate Maganti Gopinath and his loyalists are wooing Rahmathnagar corporator C.N. Reddy and Baba Fasiuddin from Borabanda.
Opposition parties are trying to drive a wedge between them. A BRS member said: “Opposition parties are circulating a video on social media where Gopinath is seen speaking to C.N. Reddy. They are trying to circulate video clips that appear to show differences between Gopinath and Fasiuddin.”.
In the eastern part of the city, the Congress and BJP corporators have come together to accuse BRS LB Nagar candidate D. Sudheer Reddy of corruption.
There have been several instances where Congress Lingojiguda corporator Daripally Rajashekar Reddy and Champapet BJP corporator Vanga Madhu Sudhan Reddy, wearing their respective party kanduvas, have shared the same stage and protested against Sudheer Reddy.
Bandaru Lakshma Reddy, the BRS Uppal candidate, is trying to get the support of former mayor Bonthu Rammohan and his wife Bonthu Sri Devi, who belong to the Backward Classes community and have dedicated supporters from the Munnuru Kapu and Yadav communities in Uppal and Malkajgiri constituencies.
