BJP targets AP govt over drought situation
Vijayawada: BJP national secretary Y. Satyakumar has said that the state government is sleeping while the AP state is facing drought, and even in this case, the Chief Secretary of the government speaks one thing, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy speaks another, and the agriculture minister gives answers to both of them without matching. He pointed out that in any case, these three didn’t have the same word, and they lacked awareness regarding drought conditions, due to which the peasants were being pushed into panic.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Satyakumar alleged that the Chief Minister, who couldn't give water to the farmers, had instructed government departments to provide water to several private and corporate companies for free. He neglected the places in Rayalaseema where poverty is severe and farmers don't even have drinking water, Satyakumar stated. He announced that a BJP office-bearers and state executive meeting would be held in Ongole on Monday (November 20), in which political decisions would be made on the drought conditions and future courses of action would be announced.
Satyakumar assured that the Bharatiya Janata Party would stand behind the farmers. He deplored that the condition of farmers and people in AP was bad, but CM Jagan didn’t consider people’s issues, and even though farmers were committing suicides, there was no movement in the CM. He stated that Jagan Mohan Reddy should be ashamed to say that there was no drought situation, adding that the CM was in a predicament where he couldn't even organize an all-party meeting. He said that all the projects in the state were coming to dead storage, but there were no pre-emptive measures.
The BJP national secretary further deplored that the drought was so severe in AP as three and a half mandals were hit due to the drought, but the funds given by the centre had been diverted by the Jagan government. He asked, “When 400 mandals are suffering from drought, why is the government not announcing it? Why is there politics in this? It is not understood why the CM is shunning his responsibility of getting funds from the centre by declaring drought mandals or why Jagan is taking so much revenge on the farmers.”
Satyakumar said, “If our president Daggubati Purandeswari questions the Jagan government’s mistakes, the YSRC insults her personally, which is severely objectionable.” He dared ruling party leaders to respond directly to the questions if they had guts.
