Cong-less Council a tough task for TRS

At present, the Congress has two members in the Council, Mohammed Shabbier Ali and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, who will retire on March 29.

Hyderabad: It will not be easy for the ruling TRS to reduce the Congress to zero in the Telangana state Legislative Council.

At present, the Congress has two members in the Council, Mohammed Shabbier Ali and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, who will retire on March 29.

The EC has set March 12 to fill the five vacancies from MLAs’ quota. The total strength of the Telangana state Assembly is 120 and that includes nominated members. The Congress has 19 MLAs. The TRS has 88 plus two Independent MLAs, making its strength reach 90.

The TRS-friendly MIM has seven members and a nominated member backing them, taking TRS’s total strength to 98. The Telugu Desam has two MLAs with whose support the Congress’s strength goes up to 21.

But TD MLA Ms Sandra Venkata Veeraiah is likely to join the TRS, taking its strength to 99, leaving the Congress with 20 MLAs.

The BJP has one MLA and it will not support either the TRS or the Congress. To win in the first round, each MLC candidate needs the support of approximately 22 MLAs.

If the TRS wants to win all five seats in the first round, it needs the support of 110 MLAs but it has 99. After winning four seats (4x22=88), the TRS will have 11 MLAs for fifth candidate while being short of another 11 MLAs for a sixth candidate.

The Congress has 20 MLAs, short of just two MLAs to win the first round. As per present strength, the TRS’ fifth candidate will get 11 MLAs’ support and the Congress candidate will get the support of 20 MLAs and he will have winning chances.

To win the fifth seat too, the TRS will have to defect at least 5-6 Congress MLAs, in the process also reducing the Congress to zero in the Council.

If five Congress MLAs back the TRS, the fifth candidate will get the support of 16 MLAs while the Congress candidate will be left with the support of 15 MLAs.

The Congress leadership is, however, confident that none of its MLAs will join the TRS. But the TRS leadership will try its best to get the support of five Congress MLAs.

Will expose all failures of Modi in 5 years, says Uttam

TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has said that all failures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be laid bare before the people. The TPCC president, along with the party's campaign committee chief Vijayashanthi and publicity committee chairman Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy had a war room meeting with AICC senior leader Anand Sharma.

“The Lok elections Sabha differ from the Assembly elections. It will be Mr Narendra Modi versus Mr Rahul Gandhi. We have also discussed the strategies for the election campaigning. As Telangana state was formed with the help of Mrs Sonia Gandhi, we have requested her to address meetings in the state.”
