Council uproar over delay in issue of election certificate to MLC poll winner
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council witnessed uproar when the Opposition Telugu Desam and PDF members protested the delay in releasing the election declaration certificate to winner Bhumireddy Ramgopal Reddy from West Rayalaseema graduates’ constituency in the present MLC polls. Slogans were raised by members, demanding suspension of the Anantapur collector and SP.
Soon after the council session began sitting on Sunday, chairman Koyyenu Moshenu Raju announced rejection of the adjournment motion tabled by B Tirumala Naidu, Manthena Satyanarayana Raju, Chikkala, Ramachandra Rao and others on the delay. He proceeded to take up the question hour.
However, the opposition trooped into the well of the house and raised slogans seeking immediate issue of the election certificate. The chairman tried to convince the members that the issue did not fall under the purview of the council and that it was upto the EC to look into this. Opposition members continued the protests and sought suspension of the district collector and SP.
Progressive Democratic Front member Vitapu Balasubramanyam urged the chairman to permit a discussion as any issue that affected the interests of the people should be discussed. Telugu Desam member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu appealed to the chairman to permit a discussion.
The chairman allowed the question hour to be taken up. Health minister Vidadala Rajaji started replying to the queries on the Family Doctor concept. The opposition members climbed up the podium and started raising
slogans. The chairman announced a break in the session for five minutes.
