Dalit youth arrested for helping Congress stage dharna
Jagtial: The police allegedly illegally arrested a Dalit youth at midnight on Monday for arranging a music system for a Congress dharna on April 9, TPCC official spokesperson Medipally Satyam claimed on Tuesday.
Satyam was speaking at a dharna in front of the police station demanding that the police release Naveen, the Dalit youth, at Mallial of Jagtial district.
Satyam alleged that after taking permission from the police, the Congress had taken up the Kondagattu Dharma Porata Deeksha on April 9, and held a padayatra with Hanuman devotees.
Following the protest, police arrested Naveen at the behest of the local TRS MLA Sunke Ravi Shankar, he alleged.
"The police officials showed enthusiasm in arresting a Dalit youth who playing devotional songs and sought development of the Kondagattu temple whereas they did not arrest those responsible for the death of a mother and son in Ramayapet and a youth in Khammam," Satyam said.
He said the Congress would lodge a complaint with the National Human Right Commission and SC Commission against the police officials who arrested Naveen. He demanded the suspension of the officials who arrested Naveen and to release him immediately.
