Congress divided on Kaleshwaram project
Hyderabad: Congress MLA T. Jaya Prakash Reddy, also kno-wn as Jagga Reddy, said he will attend the launch of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project and sees nothing wrong in Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy attending as well.
This issue has shown up the differences within the Congress as two days ago Congress Legislative Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka had opposed the Kaleshwaram project and had written to the AP Chief Minister requesting him not to attend the function.
Mr Vikramarka said that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao changed the design of the project and named it Kaleshwaram, when the late Congress Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy had called it the Pranahitha-Chevella. He said that by redesigning the project, the TRS government had indulged in corrupt practices. He said that if Mr Reddy attends the launch, it will indicate that he supports the irregularities of the TRS government.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Mr Jaya Prakash Reddy said that it is not proper to politicise the project and one should appreciate whoever does good things.
He said there are no grounds for finding fault with the construction of the Kaleshwaram project and in the past Congress Chief Ministers had also constructed such projects for the people of Telangana.
He said once the Kales-hwaram project is complete, Singur and Manjeera, which are located in his Sangareddy constituency, will get water. He said that the oldest reservoir, Mehboob Sagar, also will get water and this will help to resolve the drinking water and irrigation problems of Sangareddy.
It was because of the formation of Telangana state that the Chief Minister could construct the project and in this the Congress too had some share, he said.
If Singur, Manjeera and Mehboob Sagar fill with water within one year of launching Kaleshwaram, he will felicitate Mr Rao on behalf of the people and farmers of Sangareddy, Mr Jaya Prakash Reddy said. “I will not speak about corruption in Kaleswaram project; this will be looked after by CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka,” he ended.
The Rs 80,000-crore lift irrigation project is to be inaugurated on July 21.
