Karnataka to Roll Out Cash Benefit Scheme For Women on Aug. 30
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government's cash benefit scheme ‘Griha Lakshmi’ is all set to be launched from Mysuru city on August 30. Under this scheme, the registered female heads of a household will get Rs 2,000 every month from the state Government through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The inaugural function would be held at Maharaja’s College ground in Mysuru city.
At a press conference in Mysuru, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Lakshmi Hebbalkar said the cash benefit scheme is to empower women and so far 1.9 crore beneficiaries have registered for the scheme. After the inauguration, he said the transfer of Rs 2,000 to the beneficiaries account would start.
The inaugural function would be attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi among others.
For the inaugural function, she said, about 1.5 lakh beneficiaries would be ferried from the districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajnagar and Kodagu and arrangements have been made to ferry the beneficiaries through buses to the venue.
Griha Lakshmi was one of the five-guarantees assured by the Congress prior to coming to power in Karnataka. Already, the state government has launched three schemes -- ‘Shakti’ scheme which allows women to travel free of cost in the state run buses, ‘Griha Jyothi’ which provides upto 200 units of free power and ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme which provides 10-kg of rice for BPL and Antyodaya card holders.
